Liverpool Crown Court
Liverpool Crown Court is the primary criminal court for Merseyside, located within the Queen Elizabeth II Law Courts in Derby Square, Liverpool since 1984. Before the current building existed, serious criminal trials were held at the historic St George's Hall. In 1835, Liverpool became an "assize town," meaning prisoners no longer had to travel to Lancaster for trial. The Crown Courtroom at St George’s Hall officially opened in December 1851 and served as the city's primary criminal court for over 130 years.
Most court hearings are open to the public to ensure "justice is seen to be done". You can typically just turn up and sit in the public gallery, which is usually located at the back of each courtroom. Most cases begin around 10.00 or 10.30 and end at 16.15-16.30 with a lunch break between 13.00 and 14.00/14.15.
